The Roaring 20s that saw prosperity spread throughout the United States was no different here in West Chicago. During the 1920s West Chicago’s population grew by 30% ending the decade with 3,477 residents. Industry in our railroad town grew including an expansion of our boxcar camps that brought our first Mexican immigrants to town; a major street improvement program added nine miles of concrete streets; four new schools were built, including a new high school and our first parochial school at St. Mary’s; and the decade ended with development for what would become the DuPage County Airport and our industrial development to the west of town. Learn all about the thrilling decade that helped shape our community!
